Expiry dates by batch
When a delivery comes in, give its batch an expiry date. The Stock screen lists the batches past their date and those within a week of it, so you can sell them first or take them off the shelf.
By the bag, the kilo or the litre
Set each item’s unit and the cashier types the quantity, fractions included. A sack or a carton can be a bulk unit with its own price, and selling it takes the right amount off the count.
Credit for the farmers you know
Sell on account with a credit limit for each farmer. Balances owed for over 30 days get a list of their own, and a statement goes out as a PDF or on WhatsApp.
M-Pesa, and no internet
Send the M-Pesa prompt to the customer’s phone, or match a payment made to your Till or Paybill. When the network drops, cash and credit sales carry on and upload when it’s back.
Each item’s tax class
If you file with KRA eTIMS, each item carries its own tax class, so exempt and zero-rated goods are filed at their own rate beside the taxed ones.
Questions.
- Does it warn me about expired stock?
- Yes, for the batches you give an expiry date when they arrive: the Stock screen lists the ones past their date and those within a week of it.
- Can farmers pay later?
- Yes, on account, up to a credit limit you set for each one.
