The prompt goes to the customer’s phone
Choose M-Pesa, check the customer’s number, and they get the M-Pesa prompt on their phone to enter their PIN. The till waits for Safaricom’s answer and completes the sale once the payment is confirmed.
If the customer cancels or the prompt times out, nothing is lost: the sale stays open, and you can send the prompt again or take cash instead.
Payments sent to your Till or Paybill
Some customers would rather pay from their own phone. Payments to your Till or Paybill appear in the till’s Payments list as Safaricom reports them, and the cashier picks the one that matches the sale.
Find a payment by the customer’s name, its M-Pesa code or the last three digits of their phone number.
Part M-Pesa, part cash
One sale can be split between cash, M-Pesa and the customer’s account. The receipt lists each part, with the M-Pesa code beside its share.
The money goes to your business number
During setup we connect your own Till or Paybill to Duka. From then on every prompt goes out from your business number and the money lands in your M-Pesa account.
At the end of the day
The day’s report shows M-Pesa, cash, card and credit as separate figures, so the M-Pesa total can be checked against your M-Pesa statement.
M-Pesa needs the network, so while the till is offline its M-Pesa button is switched off. Cash and credit sales carry on and sync when the connection returns.
Questions.
- Does it work with a Buy Goods Till and a Paybill?
- Yes, either one, registered to your business.
- Does Duka take a cut of M-Pesa payments?
- No. Duka is one monthly price. Safaricom’s own charges on your Till or Paybill apply as usual.
